All the Pretty Horses

All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy

Fiction suggested by Shirley

Cut off from the only life he ever knew, John Cole, 16, and a friend set off for Mexico on a sometimes idyllic/comic journey where dreams are paid for in blood.

From Amazon – The tale of John Grady Cole, who at sixteen finds himself at the end of a long line of Texas ranchers, cut off from the only life he has ever imagined for himself. With two companions, he sets off for Mexico on a sometimes idyllic, sometimes comic journey to a place where dreams are paid for in blood.

Note from Janice – Cormac McCarthy also wrote “No Country for Old Men” which I haven’t read but understand that it’s pretty violent. Some of the customer reviews on Amazon also mention violence in his books. He also wrote “The Road”, and as one Amazon reviewer put it, this one (Pretty Horses) is “less bleak than some of his other works”.
